For those of us who are "In Between" - career or role changes to new countries to new skills acquisition to new industries i.e. 'In between' something of an uncharted territory and a launching pad.

"I believe almost all of us are in between something. At one point, we might say, 'I want to transition into a new role or create something new,' and we find ourselves navigating our aspirations versus our current realities," - thats a universal fact - Change is the only Constant!

A Candidate's Tale: Overqualification and Hiring Practices

Recently, I encountered a candidate who felt overqualified for a position after an initial interview with a hiring manager. They feared they wouldn't receive a callback due to their extensive qualifications. It's a sentiment many of us have experienced when we feel we have more to offer than the role's scope. I believe at one point they contemplated if they should have shaved off some experience from the resume or underplayed. 😑

My Advice : Sit back buffing your finger nails because it is "Show Time"

Show Time for the hiring team of course! YOU are now going to get a glimpse into the organizations talent philosophy and are about to find out if they take a shorthand approach to talent or the long term view of building people capabilities.

If the organization values the long-term development of its people, they will likely engage in meaningful conversations regardless of the immediate fit for the role. This can be a revealing indicator of the company’s commitment to building Talent within their teams.

📞 You might get an invite for an exploratory call with the Senior Leaders of the practice.
💡 You might get an email stating how the level alignment is a miss for their current role requirements but that they invite you to be a part of their talent community and be on a lookout for future roles.
🔦 You might get an opportunity to build relationship with the hiring team and recruiters and they end up sharing relevant articles and content that interests you until they have an opportunity that neatly ties in with your expertise.
